HELIADES company provides a wide range of services that includes:
Design of vaccination programs, with the aim of preventing and controlling diseases. Vaccination programs are developed individually for each farm following visits, depending on the age and production stage of each group of animals. We consider the history of disease outbreaks in each flock, in order to suggest the necessary vaccinations.
Nutritional management includes the design of balanced rations, based on maintenance and milk production requirements, adjusted for the production stage and breed of animals in each farm. We consider all the above and in combination with the available feedstuffs, we focus on increasing milk production with the lowest feeding costs.
Recording of individual performance of ewes gives us the possibility of targeted grouping and efficient management of animals based on their production. In this way, the most productive animals can fully express their genetic potential. Moreover, it is possible to identify low-milk-producing animals that should be removed from the flock. Through milk yield records, we enhance the genetic improvement of the flock, as selection of replacement animals is based on data and not empirically. Thus, the flock is renewed with females derived only from ewes with high yields and other desirable heritable traits of the lactation trajectory, such as duration and persistency.
Reproductive management is based on the needs and goals of each farm. Taking into account the breed, the flock size, the milk production, as well as the goals of each farmer (period of production / disposal of milk), we implement the optimal breeding program.
In the context of proper reproductive management, early diagnosis of pregnancy is one of the most important tools. Diagnosis is possible from the 30th day of pregnancy with the use of ultrasound scanners. Precise determination of stage of pregnancy and litter size is necessary for:
- grouping of ewes to enter in the dry period
- proper nutritional management during late gestation
- designing of vaccination and antiparasitic programs
- diagnosis of pathological conditions (pyometra, hydrometer, etc.) affecting fertility.
Structure and operation of dairy farms acquires increasingly a modern business management model. This means that every farm must be perceived as any other business, which requires collaboration and the interventions of expert consultants to manage it.
Through our experience in the field of animal husbandry, we evaluate the economic sustainability of your business, in order to suggest interventions and set future goals for further development.
We are next to the breeder, in order to achieve every goal.
Although we promote the adoption of preventive health protocols to reduce the incidence of diseases, our intervention is often required to investigate and treat pathological conditions on farms.
Through on-site visits, we obtain the history and perform clinical examination and/or necropsy of animals, collect the necessary blood or tissue samples and send them to specialized laboratories for analysis. Our goal is to choose the most appropriate and economical treatment protocol and to take preventive measures, in order to avoid the recurrence of similar pathological conditions in the farms.
Through lectures and organization of on-farm demonstration days, we aim in training farmers for the implementation of innovative practices that enhance sustainability and genetic improvement of the flock.
